Google has announced the launch of its External Links program for the US market, which will impose service fees on transactions and app installations completed through external links. Under the policy, app installations will incur a fixed fee of $2-$4 (depending on app category), while in-app purchase transactions will be subject to a 10-20% revenue share. This policy, effective January 28, 2026, represents Google’s adjustment amid antitrust pressure. Developers must apply to join the program in advance and comply with a series of requirements, including limiting links to US users only, ensuring apps meet developer policies, and providing customer support. Although fees are not yet being collected, Google has clearly stated that it will implement charges for transactions and downloads completed through external links in the future.
