After Mozilla’s foundational work, years of effort by Apple’s WebKit team, and multiple discussions within the CSS Working Group, the future of web waterfall layouts is finally here! CSS Grid Lanes have now been officially launched. Developers can now implement waterfall layouts with simple CSS code: just set display: grid-lanes and configure the grid-template-columns and gap properties. Currently, this feature is available for trial in Safari Technology Preview 234. CSS Grid Lanes provide web designers with a simpler and more powerful way to create layouts for image galleries, news lists, and other content requiring irregular arrangements. This technological breakthrough will significantly enhance the flexibility and aesthetics of web design, bringing users a better browsing experience.
