Astral today announced ty, a blazing-fast Python type checker and language server built with Rust. In terms of performance, ty is 10 to 60 times faster than existing tools like mypy and Pyright, supporting incremental updates and enabling real-time feedback in editors. It offers advanced type checking features such as intersection types, type narrowing, and reachability analysis, and integrates with editors like VS Code and Cursor. ty has entered beta, with Astral planning to release a stable version next year, gradually adding support for more libraries like Pydantic and Django.
